The production team of a film shoot needed to digitize the process of recording scripts and notes directly on set. Until then, they had been using handwritten paper “facing pages,” where the assistant director recorded notes for each shot—such as the director’s reactions, the usability of individual takes, or technical details about sound and camera. This workflow was slow, inefficient, and made subsequent information sharing between departments more difficult. The goal was to replace the paper-based system with a modern, interactive solution.
We developed an interactive FileMaker application designed for iPad and for direct use during filming. The assistant director can record notes in real time for each scene—from shot numbers and director comments to technical details about lenses used or sound recordings.
The system is designed for offline operation. It allows data entry even in locations without internet access, and automatically synchronizes with the central repository once a connection becomes available.
This ensures that all teams—from directing and camera to post-production—work with the same data. The solution significantly accelerated information sharing and minimized errors caused by manual transcription or data duplication.
